Slingshot into Fall, Buena Vista Style

08.02.2018 by Amanda Ford //

Experience Fall: Slingshot Style

Picture this: breathing in crisp Colorado mountain air, leaves in every shade of green, orange, yellow and red surrounding you and your family cruising in style next to the Arkansas River in a Polaris RZR or Slingshot. Sound too good to be true? Think again. Buena Vista is one of the best places to take a weekend trip with the family and view the changing of seasons.

The Autumn colors in Buena Vista usually peak in mid-September through early October. A word of advice: the aspen trees higher in elevation peak first with the lower areas along the Arkansas River changing colors a couple of weeks after.

Get the full experience of the changing colors and remarkable scenery that Buena Vista holds by visiting these local trails and locations:

  • Cottonwood Pass – 12,000+ feet up on the Continental divide, this pass will make you feel as if you were on top of the world. It is one of the best scenic drives near Buena Vista, especially when riding in a Polaris Slingshot. If you’re looking to step out and explore on foot, this pass leads you to numerous hiking trails like Denny Creek Trail, Ptarmigan Lake and the Colorado Trail.
  • Cottonwood Lake – Watch the fall foliage reflect off of Cottonwood Lake as you embark on a kayak adventure with your family. River Runners rents out kayaks and SUPs, giving you and your family a whole new viewing experience and an Instagram-worthy photo.
  • Aspen Ridge – One of the most popular areas for ATVs, Jeeps, UTVs and dirt bikes, Aspen Ridge is a prime spot to expedition in a Polaris RZR and smell the fall air.
  • Midland Hill – This is walking distance from downtown Buena Vista where you can enjoy nature at its finest and be close to the city all at the same time!
  • Buena Vista ATV Color Tour – The “Historical Color Tour” is an annual mountain festival that the Colorado Chamber of Commerce hosts. People come from all over the country to this off-road rally and stop by old mining sites and ghost towns. This is your golden ticket to take in all of the fall colors!

Let us be your fall vacation guide! Book your end of season Polaris RZR or Slingshot ride with Adventure Hub.

Choose from off-road adventures and whitewater rafting to cruising down the street in a Polaris Slingshot and grabbing a bite to eat. The possibilities are endless, but here’s a list of five of our favorite things to do in Buena Vista to embrace your weekend-warrior spirit:

  1. Off-Roading: BV Adventure Hub grants you the opportunity to take out a 2018 Polaris RZR 900 and explore miles of world-class OHV trails in the San Isabel National Forest. Side-by-sides elevate your off-road adventure with 2-seat and 4-seat options to roam on your own or take a tour with an expert staff. Wanting to plan your own excursion with a side-by-side? We’ve got you covered. Request a specific drop-off location and your machines will be brought to you, hassle free.
  2. Whitewater Rafting: Cool off from the summer heat with a whitewater rafting trip on the Arkansas River. River Runners will make your whitewater dreams come true whether you are a river veteran or a beginner. Ride the rapids for a half day, full day or keep the adventure going on an overnight trip.
  3. On-Roading: Explore the heart of Colorado in style with the new Polaris Slingshot. Your family can take a slingshot ride through the twists and turns of Buena Vista, soaking in the breathtaking scenery that surrounds you. After a day of venturing off and finding hidden gems, you can roll into town in style and grab a bite to eat at one of the local favorites.
  4. Local Eats: The Browns Canyon Riverside Grill is a family-friendly restaurant with a Baja-style menu that offers a unique, casual dining experience. Relax on the banks of the Arkansas river with delicious food and a cold microbrew. Eddyline Brewery and Taproom has been brewing craft beers for more than nine years, bringing together outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. Sip on a cold one and indulge in their tasty selection of pizzas, soups, salads, tacos and burritos. Plug into Nature: Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day the Buena Vista Way

05.29.2018 by Amanda Ford //

Embrace the Great Outdoors

Wake up, swipe open your phone, check social media pages and work email, turn on music to get ready for work, sit at your desks and stare at a screen for 8 hours a day, come home and turn on the television to unwind from the day and repeat.

We are submerged in the digital era and have become so accustomed to technology that we often need to be reminded to step away, unplug and give our minds and bodies time to decompress.

Buena_Vista_Colorado

National Get Outdoors Day is June 9th and we highly encourage you to grab your friends and family to get outside, plug into nature and create your own Colorado adventure. One day without turning on your cell phone, iPad, laptop or any other device used to connect with others through the internet is exactly what you, and us at BV Adventure Hub, have been needing. Doesn’t the idea of waking up to nature’s alarm clock of birds chirping and the sun rising sound much more peaceful than your screaming alarm clock that startles you every morning?

Travis Hochard, the general manager of BV Adventure Hub and River Runners, realizes the importance of setting down phones and tablets and creating memories with those around you, in nature. His getaway of choice is packing up a Polaris RZR with snacks and plenty of water and riding through the mountains of Buena Vista with his wife (NAME) to his right and their dog (NAME) in the back. Breathing in the fresh Buena Vista air, listening to nature’s soundtrack and staring out into countless miles of rolling hills, trees, wildlife and mountains is an experience that not even the most advanced technology can recreate.

Spending time in the great outdoors has an abundance of health benefits like giving our lungs clean oxygen, soaking up more vitamin D and reducing stress and anxiety, to name a few. We are advocates for adventure trips, getting lost in nature and exploring our state’s natural playground.

Need help planning your National Get Outdoors Day? Here’s a list of our recommended outdoor adventures in Buena Vista to help you plug into nature:

  • Explore more than 30 miles of world-class OHV trails in the Four Mile Recreation Area of the San Isabel National Forest, just minutes from Buena Vista, in one of BV Adventure Hub’s new 2018 fleet of Polaris ATVs and side-by-sides.
  • Hike the Harvard Lakes Trail in the San Isabel National Forest. This moderate, 6-mile roundtrip trail winds along the slopes of Mount Columbia and leads you to a pair of lakes. We are going to let you in on a little secret; the lakes are known for their trout fishing so pack a fishing rod if you’re able and spend a few hours wetting a line!
  • Bike the Buena Vista River Road, a family-friendly path that you can cruise down with ease while riding next to the Arkansas River. The path takes you along the old Midland Railroad grade and through a series of tunnels, occasionally passing rock climbers on Bob’s Rock and Elephant Rock.
  • Camp at Turtle Rock, a free campsite managed by the Bureau of Land Management. There are 29 campsites, all equipped with fire rings and enough space to fit a 35-foot RV! While camping at Turtle Rock, you can go fishing, hiking, biking, climbing, horseback riding and wildlife viewing.
  • White water rafting with River Runners is the ideal way to cool off from the heat of the summer. For novice rafters, expert conquerors of the white caps and every skill level in between. Half-day, full-day and overnight trips are all available. Feeling like you want to fly solo and try something new? We recommend renting a stand-up paddle board (SUP) and floating down the Arkansas River, you won’t regret it.
  • A simple stroll down Main Street in Buena Vista is also a great choice! There are so many great shops, restaurants and breweries to visit!

Aspen, Colorado

We hope you choose to embrace the remarkable outside world around you and keep yourself rooted with nature on June 9. Now turn off your phone or computer and get out there and explore!
